Rodney Reservoir Community Garden

Get Involved

The City's process to sign up for a garden at the Rodney Reservoir for 2026 was open briefly in March. (Read more on that here.)

Did you receive a plot or get on the waitlist? Answer our garden census so we can all stay connected. If you have feedback on how to improve the sign-up process, please share it here.

Friends of the Garden

Green for the Greater Good is committed to helping the gardener community connect, ensuring the full restoration of all 62 plots, launching new ways we can share extra produce, and advocating for the space to continue to be an active community resource and hub for residents beyond those who have gotten plots so far. Let’s all work together to make our community garden the best that it can be!

History of the Rodney Reservoir Community Garden

In 2010, a coalition of local organizations and over 300 community members sought a location on the West Side to create a community garden, obtained permission from the City to build one on the lower portion of the Rodney Reservoir, built and launched the garden–building 22 garden plots in the first year, 15 more in the second year, and in 2012 expanding to a total of 60 beds. The garden thrived for almost 15 years with all beds in use when it close temporarily for the construction of the new park.

Community Garden Design

To organize more community input into the design of the community garden portion of the site, Green for the Greater Good teamed up with UD's Living Lab Research Group to facilitate community-engaged research and design sessions focused on the Rodney Reservoir Community Garden. Read the design session series recap here.
