This newsletter is about how we can support the full restoration of the Rodney Reservoir Community Garden to its previous size of 62 garden plots in time for this growing season.
WHO WE ARE: Green for the Greater Good is a group of neighbors working to transform the Rodney Reservoir into a beautiful community and nature-focused park for all to enjoy.
1. COMMUNITY GARDEN UPDATE
The Rodney Reservoir Community Garden was a big success for almost 15 years! When the garden was temporarily closed for park construction, all 61 plots were in use by neighbors and student groups growing vegetables and flowers.
The approved design created by landscape architects Hinge Collective for the new park included 62 plots. But only 20 have been built so far. The City has said that they want to hold off on building any more garden plots–even though more than 125 people have expressed interest in gardening.
Our goal is to make sure as many residents as possible can garden this spring- so we’ve offered to help! Green for the Greater Good and West Side Grows Together have offered to organize volunteers to build the remaining plots to fully restore the garden to its previous size. We have also offered to collaborate with the City on garden operations, including by supporting a gardener leadership team.

2. SUPPORT CITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION ASKING THE CITY TO RESTORE THE COMMUNITY GARDEN
City Council is considering a resolution that encourages the City to build out all 62 plots and consider collaborating with the community on garden operations. It will be discussed at the Health, Environment, Aging and Disabilities Committee Meeting on Wednesday, January 28th, 5-7 PM in the Committee Room at 800 N. French St. and on Zoom.
You can show support by attending or by making public comment and sharing why the community garden is important to you and how it benefits the neighborhood. RSVP here if you plan to attend or if you have questions about making public comment.

Motivated friends of the garden, including organizations and groups, are all invited to draft your own letters to the Mayor’s office. Reach out and let us know how we can help!
