This e-Newsletter includes BIG NEWS about the construction of the new Rodney Reservoir Park, an invitation to a Community Garden Design Workshop on Monday July 29, and an opportunity to participate in a survey about garden design created by our University of Delaware partners.
WHO WE ARE: Green for the Greater Good is a group of neighbors working to transform the Rodney Reservoir into a beautiful park for all to enjoy!
1. CITY PRESS RELEASE: CITY LAUNCHES CONSTRUCTION OF NEW RODNEY RESERVOIR PARK
We are very excited to share the City’s press release confirming its timeline to build the new Rodney Reservoir Park and the goal of opening the park in Spring 2025.
Many thanks to the City of Wilmington for working with the community to design this park. Special thanks to our state legislators, especially Senator Lockman, Representative Dorsey Walker and Senator McBride for championing the community’s role in this process and for advocating for funding to build the park. Thank you also to the University of Delaware’s Living Lab for supporting resident engagement and community-driven design of our public spaces. Thank you to the many partners who have been involved including West Side Grows.
Especially, thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to imagine and design this park. Look what we have accomplished together! Let’s keep going and get even more neighbors involved!
2. COMMUNITY GARDEN DESIGN WORKSHOP, MONDAY, JULY 29, 6-8 PM
Green for the Greater Good is partnering with West Side Grows Together and UD’s Living Lab to give residents the chance to be part of designing the community garden space at the new Rodney Reservoir Park.
The event series continues next week on Monday, July 29, 6-8 PM at St. Francis Hospital. Community experts Katie Pollock, a Master Teacher at the UD Lab School, and McKay Jenkins, professor at the University of Delaware will lead a workshop about how the future community garden might serve as an outdoor classroom and how it can contribute to food justice and food sovereignty initiatives in our neighborhood. We will also take time to review and provide feedback on the priorities for garden design that emerged from the first garden design session. All are welcome. RSVP is encouraged but not required: Register here.
3. TAKE THE COMMUNITY GARDEN DESIGN SURVEY!
Are you interested in community gardening at the Rodney Reservoir or thinking about ways neighbors can build community and design programming for the space? Please take the survey created by our partners at the University of Delaware to share your input on design options and how you might want to participate in community gardening. The survey will close on 7/29, so now is the time to share your ideas!
