Community Garden Design Events, Field Trip & Workshop, plus Community Air Monitoring Update

This e-Newsletter includes details about upcoming community garden design events, a field trip and other opportunities to get more involved, and an update on the community air monitoring project.

WHO WE ARE: Green for the Greater Good is a group of neighbors working to transform the Rodney Reservoir into a beautiful park for all to enjoy!

1. COMMUNITY GARDEN DESIGN SESSIONS IN JULY AND AUGUST

Do you like to garden? Are you interested in building community? The City of Wilmington is moving forward to build the park we all helped design for the Rodney Reservoir.  Now come help design the community garden! Join one or all of the Design Sessions we are planning for this summer at St. Francis Hospital:

Session I: Tues. July 2, 6-8 PM

  • Brainstorm community garden design ideas

Session III: Tues. August 6, 6-8 PM

  • Review and revise community garden design ideas

Session IV: Tues. August 13, TBD, virtual meeting

  • Final community garden design review & recap priorities

All are welcome! Get more information on our website and RSVP for events here.

2. GET MORE INVOLVED: FIELD TRIP AND WORKSHOP

Would you like to get more involved? Join this series of events aimed at building connections between community garden projects across our region.

I. Baltimore Field Trip, Sun. July 7 (all day)

  • Visit community garden and farm projects in Baltimore! Lunch and transportation between Newark and Baltimore will be provided. Carpooling from Wilmington to Newark is also a possibility. Please register in advance!

II. Workshop: Mon. July 29, 6-8PM @ St. Francis Hospital

  • Focus on outdoor learning environments and food justice community projects with community experts.

3. COMMUNITY AIR MONITORING PROJECT

We began investigating local air quality to better understand the impact of the demolition of the Rodney Reservoir on the environment and the community.  We have since expanded this project to engage in air quality monitoring for our neighborhood broadly to collect baseline data, encourage citizen science, and start a conversation about health, equity, and stewardship. We are looking for more people to host purple air monitors near I-95 and the 4th street corridor.  To get involved, email us at greenforthegreatergoodde@gmail.com or visit our table at Open Streets 4th Street edition on Saturday 6/29 from 1-4 PM.

GET MORE INVOLVED

We need to work together to make sure our neighborhood is heard and the city works with us on the future of the Rodney Reservoir! Here are some more ways you can get involved:
