This newsletter includes updates on park construction and community planting days at the new Reservoir Park, a clean-up day at Father Tucker Park, and more!
WHO WE ARE: Green for the Greater Good is a group of neighbors working to transform the Rodney Reservoir into a beautiful nature-focused park for all to enjoy.
1. PARK CONSTRUCTION AND OPENING UPDATE
It has been exciting to watch the community-designed, nature-focused park taking shape at the former Rodney Reservoir over the past month! It’s beautiful to see the great effort being devoted to implementing the idea that was imagined and cultivated by residents!
Last week, the City of Wilmington published an update on the construction timeline. They are now projecting the park to open in late summer.

2. COMMUNITY GARDEN UPDATE
The City also announced that the community garden would not open until the Spring of 2026. We’re still in dialogue with the City and will do everything we can to try to get the community garden to open sooner. If you want to be involved in garden organizing, planning and stewardship, please add your name here.
3. COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP DAY AT FATHER TUCKER PARK, APRIL 12 from 9 AM - 12 PM
On Saturday, communities all over Wilmington will be getting outdoors to clean up and beautify their neighborhoods as part of the City of Wilmington’s Beautiful City Initiative, including several events on the West Side.
Green for the Greater Good and Little Italy Neighborhood Association invite you to stop by to help spread playground mulch at Father Tucker Park. Join us at the corner of Scott and 9th from 9 AM to 12 PM for mulch spreading, block clean-up, refreshments, and more! Bring a shovel or a rake if you have one! Check back at the end of the week for weather-related updates. RSVP encouraged but not required. Here is the link!

4. JOIN COMMUNITY PLANTING DAYS AT RESERVOIR PARK, APRIL 26-27 AND MAY 3-4
It’s very exciting to see the nature park coming to life with all the trees being planted on site by workers. Now it’s OUR TURN! All are invited to take part in a series of community planting days hosted by landscape architects, Hinge Collective, who put a lot of care into plans for the meadow and forests at the site. There are three two-hour shift options available between 10 AM and 5 PM on each of the four planting days on April 26, April 27, May 3 and May 4.
Green for the Greater Good is organizing neighbors to help kick-off the series on the first shift on April 26 at 10 AM! Space is limited and registration is required. It will still be an active construction site, so all participants will need to sign waivers. Children are welcome! Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Sign up here.
