This newsletter includes the park opening date, community garden next steps, information about accessibility and more!
WHO WE ARE: Green for the Greater Good is a group of neighbors working to transform the Rodney Reservoir into a beautiful nature-focused park for all to enjoy.
1. PARK OPENING!
The day everyone has been waiting for is here! The City will host the grand opening of the new park on October 8th at 3PM. All are welcome!

2. ACCESSIBILITY AT THE NEW PARK
Another thing to celebrate is the fact that the newly designed park is fully ADA accessible. Three wheel-chair accessible entrances lead on to accessible paths throughout the park. There are also three keyhole beds in the community garden that will accommodate mobility devices.

3. COMMUNITY CELEBRATION
Save the date for a community celebration at the park on the afternoon of Saturday, October 25th. Stay tuned for details. If you would like to volunteer to help with the event or if you are part of an organization that would like to participate, please sign up here!
4. COMMUNITY GARDEN UPDATE
The City has informed Green for the Greater Good that the community garden won’t open at the same time as the park but is in the works. Green for the Greater Good continues to advocate for the City to work with residents, gardeners, and community organizations to build out the full community garden design so that there are at least as many garden beds as in the past and so that as many residents as possible can garden at the site.
If you are interested in gardening and have not done so already, please sign up here. Green for the Greater Good will share information about how to sign up for a plot as soon as the City sends it out. Also, if you are interested in helping to build out the garden beds, sign up here. This community built the community garden together before, maybe we can be part of the solution and help the City rebuild it!
5. GET A FREE NATIVE TREE THROUGH THE TEDI PROGRAM, TODAY, FRIDAY, 10/3!
New Castle County and the Tree for Every Delawarean Initiative (TEDI) are teaming up to offer free native trees to Delaware residents this Friday October 3rd, from 11-1:30 at Rockwood Park, while supplies last. Read more about the event here.
6. OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON THE DELAWARE CLIMATE ACTION PLAN UPDATE
Delaware’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) is working on a two-year update to the Delaware Climate Action Plan. The public is invited to study the strategies and actions that are under consideration for the update, which you can find here. Then, you are invited to provide feedback through this survey. The deadline to contribute is October 10. Please spread the word!
