This newsletter includes a report on community planting, an opportunity to make public comment in support of the community garden, Social Soil save the date, and more!

WHO WE ARE: Green for the Greater Good is a group of neighbors working to transform the Rodney Reservoir into a beautiful nature-focused park for all to enjoy.

1. REPORT BACK ON COMMUNITY PLANTING DAYS

It was wonderful to see so many neighbors, gardeners, students, community partners and elected officials come out and participate in over four sessions of community planting! The natural beauty of the park and its views are stunning. Enjoy the photo gallery as we all wait for opening day!!

2. SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE COMMUNITY GARDEN ON WEDS. 5/21, 5:00 PM

Green for the Greater Good will present at City Council’s Health, Environment, Aging & Disabilities Committee this Wednesday, May 21 from 5-6 PM on the topic of how community gardens benefit communities. We invite everyone to show support by attending the meeting or making public comment–either in person or on Zoom–sharing why you care about community gardening and how it has benefited you and your community.

This is an important opportunity because we want to make sure we are able to return to a community-led gardening program at the Rodney Reservoir as soon as possible, and we want City Council to see that there is strong support for the Rodney Reservoir Community Garden.  We also want to spread the idea/opportunity to more neighborhoods. Please RSVP here to let us know you plan to attend or if you want to know more.

3. SAVE THE DATE: SOCIAL SOIL EVENT on JUNE 14, 11AM-2PM at 301 N. HARRISON

We are excited to announce that we will be partnering with the Latin American Community Center once more to offer a Social Soil event next month.  Mark your calendars and bring your friends and family! Our goal is to connect more people and neighborhoods to the new Rodney Reservoir park and community garden and to cultivate our community connections, our “social soil,” through food, conversation, resource-sharing and stewardship activities. Stay tuned for more details. We invite community partners who might like to participate to reach out.
